Should I Purchase Discount Fashion Items?
As the economy, has shifted to promote us to be careful with our money, replica purses or replica handbags have grown in popularity. Fashion items such as Discount Designer Handbags offer a cheap way to have an item that looks pricey without being expensive.
Designers of expensive brands often try very hard to disallow the selling of fashion accessories that copy the design of their own product. And yet, what harm will purchasing fake brands at cheaper rates do? Before we begin sympathizing with fashion companies too much, we should think about how they work to take our hard-earned dollars. Most companies that work in the fashion world are dependent on a marketing technique known as “perceived obsolescence”.
Perceived obsolescence refers to the act of making a product which still functions perfectly to be seen as not worth using. Nothing is tangibly wrong with the product, yet people will refuse to use it, and go out to buy something new instead. Doesn’t this sound ridiculous? Yet this is how fashion works. A pair of sunglasses, a dress, a hat and anything can be comfortable and even attractive, but if someone is hoping to stay “in fashion” they might have to think about throwing these items away, since they don’t adhere to the latest styles.
Why is the perception of looking fashionable so important? Even those who can comprehend the silliness of changing fashions still tend to play along. While the real reasons for the existence of fashion can be argued forever, one clear purpose they serve is that they make it possible for companies to keep selling.
Along with perceived obsolescence comes its alternative, perceived value. When a certain label is placed next to a piece of clothing or jewelry, the price of the product may multiply by ten. Certain brands have notions of taste and coolness surrounding them, so being associated with these brands is something consumers are willing to pay large amounts of money for.
The only real sin in purchasing replica products lies in the fact that the expensive companies that produce them have their brand image used by someone else, without receiving monetary compensation. Yet the idea that a label in itself can hold value is one of the quirks of Western civilization and not really associated to any kind of fact. The question that needs to be put forth is this: Beyond a relatively small social circle of peers, who really cares?
If the quality of products that replicate other brands is good, there’s no reason not to take advantage of a discount in price. Only upon looking closely will it be made apparent that there is a different producer of the product. Some, especially those in the clothing industry, would try to put the idea forward that the difference in materials and care in the creation of products is what causes such a larger price, but a company would need to try to make this a perceived truth in order to protect their business interests. The fact is this: Without the label, the real thing and the copy are virtually identical.
