Some Products Just Will Not Sell On The Net
There is a huge hype about internet marketing in the business world with many different groups of people believing that it is now the best way to advertise your products or services. Certainly for a lot of organisations this is true. The huge benefits that can be gained from having a Search Engine Placement position on page one of the search engine rankings is clear in a lot of different sectors. The economy has seen large numbers of firms profit greatly from using search engine optimization processes as their only form of advertising and it is no wonder when you take into account the huge audience that a decent search engine placement provides you with.
There are a few places where this kind of advertising actually does not have any impact. The first being for new or innovative items. The internet is so vast that the only way it can operate is by allowing the searcher to be directed to very small sections of the massive whole by way of a keyword. So if the product is unfarmilliar and very new there is little chance of anyone actually searching for it at all. And that means there will be no customers arriving at the site. The business could try to sort out this problem by locating keywords that are actually the problem that the new product would sort out. So say for example, a new tool had been produced to cut down fairly large trees without the use of a hazardous chainsaw, the sellers may look for key phrases like “safely fell trees” or “felling trees”. As if they tried to promote a product name at this point it, no one would be aware of it and therefore wouldn’t type it in.
Once the product is recognised the Online Marketing method works well again. But in reality new products must come to the market in a much more tradition way, promoted in very specific sectors. The piece of tree equipment for example could be demonstrated on QVC, advertised in DIY shops and at summer shows. Once enough of that work has established the product the internet sales can come into their own but that primary kick will not be achieved from the net.
Another problem area, where Online Marketing does not work particularly well is for the sorts of products where people need to see the item physically. These can range from clothing items especially shoes to food items, particularly fresh goods. These kinds of goods are the ones that maintain the highest amount of face to face purchases and this is likely to remain the position for years to come. So to spend budget on a website in these position is not the best way to promote them. This does not mean that a presence on the internet would not improve the business. However that presence can merely be a listing on a site such as Yell or some other similar information bank. This allows customers in the surrounding area to tell where you are based, the products or services you sell and your hours of opening. That is about all you really need to bring them in and the rest is achieved when they pop in.
So although internet marketing, and particularly search engine optimization is the big buzz word in marketing at the moment do make sure you product fits web selling before investing in a site and even the services of a Website Optimization Company.
