Selling Online: 10 Cracking Ways To Multiply Your Sales

Selling online can be hard to get started but once you have an income stream, it’s pretty simple to turn it into a flood. Are you leaving money on the table? How many of these tactics do you really use?

1. After making a sale, follow up with the customer. Even if they do not opt in to a list you probably have their mailing address or email address. Check local laws but you will almost certainly find you are allowed to contact them from time to time about products related to that first sale.

2. Upsell: the ‘fries with that?’ tactic. After they order, tell them about one or more related products you have for sale. They can just add it to their order. This can be done online, in stores and with telephone orders.

3. Offer a full rebate of the purchase price if customers refer three other buyers. One sale becomes three sales without any work on your part.

4. Run an affiliate program. For digital products, you can put your item into Clickbank or run your own affiliate program script. Physical products can be offered online through Commission Junction and similar sites. Offer commission to web site and magazine publishers in exchange for free advertising.

5. Sell reprint, reproduction or distribution rights to your products. This makes a great upsell for marketing products. For other products you could set up a multi level marketing distribution company or offer rights to companies who sell complementary products. For example if you sell dog food, most of your customers will just want the dog food. They don’t want to buy the right to re-label your dog food and sell it under their own name. But they might join an MLM program where they earned commissions for distributing your dog food to their friends and the friends of their friends.

6. Joint venture with the owner of a complementary product. Your dog food packaging contains an ad for his dog collars, and vice versa.

7. Give out discount coupons for your other related products to your buyers. This can be a ‘one-time offer’ if you are selling online, or a paper coupon that is shipped with your physical products.

8. Send all of your buyers a catalog of upgrades and accessories for the product they already purchased. If they use and enjoy your product they will buy the extra add-ons.

9. Offer gift certificates for your products. You make sales when people purchase the certificate, and when somebody comes to your site to pick something out, they will often spend more.

10. Include free promotional products in shipped orders. These are freebies with your ad printed on them. Bumper stickers work well, or for a higher ticket product you could send ball caps or T-shirts. If you have an affiliate program, send them to your affiliates too.
