Living In The City of Milford
Milford town is found between Bridgeport and New haven. It is in southwestern New paradise County, Connecticut, US. Milford was once the early settlements in south central Connecticut. Time passed by and it gave rise to a number of towns that broke off from the whole Milford. Woodbridge which is also in part from New haven separated itself from Milford in 1784. Another is Orange in 1822 which is the previous North Milford. Bethany and West sanctuary were formed from Woodbridge and Orange respectively.
After the world war ii, Milford town became suburbanized. In 1970s, one of the states largest shopping centers which is the Connecticut Post Mall was built. The city also became the home of establishment corporations like Schick Shaving Company and tube Fast-food Corporation. Milford Hospital was also built as the medical care facility for the area.
The town is ruled by a mayor as the Manager and its legislative body is the Board of legislator. Other positions in the town government are the Board of Education, Planning and Zoning Board and the town Clerk.
According to the united states census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.7 square miles ( 61.5 km ). Its land area is 22.3 square miles ( 57.7 km ) and 1.5 square miles ( 3.8 km ) of it actually is water. Milford town has three islands specifically Fowler Island, Duck Island and Nells Island which are found in the Housatonic stream. The shoreline of Milford is generally part of the Silver Sands State Park that has a protected bird nesting area. It has a number of principal communities such as Milford center, Devon, Morningside, Walnut Beach, Wildermere Beach and Woodmont borough. Apart from these, it has also got geographic features such as the Ettadore Park, Point Lookout, Naugatuck Gardens and Wheelers Farms.
In the 2k census, its population is 52,212. It has 13,613 families and 20,138 households. The racial makeup of the city includes 93.55% White, 2.36% Asian, 1.91% Afro-American, 0.13% native american, 0.03% Pacific Islander and the rest are other races. Every month of August, the city of Milford celebrates its yearly Oyster holiday. It serves as the city fair and the culinary celebration of its location on long island Sound which is historically abundant in shellfish. This event is held in Milford Green located in the middle of the city. The whole holiday includes a selection of activities like canoe and canoe races as well as classic auto shows.
Throughout the year, 2 events are hosted by the Milford Cultural Center which is controlled by the Milford Council of humanities. In Devon, a corporation named Firehouse Art gallery was opened. The city is rich in its cultural and arts heritage.
