You must be able to understand the opinions and perspectives of others even when you disagree. My upline has always felt that multi-level marketing is a relationship business and cannot be conducted on the impersonal internet. Well, I agree that it is a relationship business but I also feel that we can develop great relationships with those we come into contact with on the internet. There will always be times when you will disagree with those in your organization but understanding there are differences will help you go a long way.

From another perspective, you must understand that just because you thing your product or company is the greatest, others may not agree with you especially at first. New prospects need to be presented with value before they can be expected to want your product or company. It is a slow process of education and giving not just telling the prospect they need your product or company. This is Pre-selling in Network Marketing or attraction marketing.

Being a person who can demonstrate patience.

How you deal with things that don’t go you way in your business can determine your success. Pay plans sometimes change, products sometimes change, uplines or downlines sometimes quit for no apparent reason, You need to be patient with people as well as with processes. Network Marketing is NOT a get rich quick business. Some people do better than others, but those who patiently keep moving forward will be the real successes. Patience is required in training those people who become part of your organization. We all learn differently and at different rates of speed. You may think your methods are very easy to duplicate, but your new recruit may not find your methods as easy as you do and the new recruit may have another system they prefer to use.

Being an organized person.

Most of the people who start a business in the network marketing industry begin part time at first and have a limited amount of time. Learning the business may require learning a number of new skills. If you are starting out your business as an online/internet business, you can find yourself overcome with suggestions of how to market online. Just being efficient with emails, responding to new prospects, writing blogs and articles, setting up things like auto-responders or splash pages can be difficult if you are not careful. Scheduling daily tasks and sticking to those tasks in order of priority is essential.

Starting a network marketing business is not free and therefore also requires organization of your finances. Without organizing your finances, even if you start to make money you may still struggle.

Being able to set priorities.

In a network marketing business, you must set goals. Then come up with specific steps you will take to achieve those goals. Those steps must then be prioritized. Every day you should know what your plans are. You must decide whether to spend time on personal recruiting, helping a new distributor you have recruited, writing articles or blogs, or developing new marketing strategies, etc.

There are also some high pressure times that can distract you from your prioritized tasks such as the end of a business period is coming and you are a bit short of your quota. Do you reprioritize or stick to your plan? There will always be a number of different priorities that will compete for your time.

Being a confident leader.

First and foremost, to be in a multi-level business, you must be a people person. It is important to be understanding of how people work and how they feel. Are people attracted to your personality? When a person joins your opportunity, they are not joining the company, they are joining you. Only through your confident leadership will they continue to stick around in your organization. When people join an organization they want to follow and work with someone who is assured of themselves. Confidence is one of the most important characteristics of the successful network marketer.

The good news is that all of these characteristics can be learned or improved upon over time. Continuing work in personal development and practice are the keys. It takes time and effort but with work you will become successful in the network marketing industry.
