Giveaways are the best way that I know of to build a list for free.

You should upload a good free product that people will genuinely want. Something that will not disappoint them when they open it. Then make sure you have an upsell, another related product that you can sell them afterward. This does not have to be your own product, it could be something you are promoting as an affiliate.

If you are taking the affiliate route, then you need to redirect people to the product page after they confirm their subscription to your list. You can do this two ways:

1. Have your autoresponder send them direct to your affiliate link for the product when they confirm.

This risks annoying them, because they will expect to reach your freebie download page. You will need to explain clearly on the page they see after filling in their details (the page that says “thank you now please confirm, please check your email for our email with the confirmation link”) that the download link for the freebie will be sent by email after they have confirmed. Also explain in the email that goes from your autoresponder that contains the download link. And be sure to set up follow-up email number one in your autoresponder which goes out immediately and which contains your freebie download link.

2. The second method is to give them a download page for the freebie and above the download link place an ad for the affiliate product that you are promoting. You can usually create this ad by borrowing the headline and some other good points from the product sales letter.

If you use this method, be sure that when they click on the link to go through to the affiliate product it opens a new window so that they do not lose your download page. And send them the download page link by email too, just in case – and also so that they can come back and see your affiliate product ad again

Then whichever method you use, create a few more follow up emails promoting that affiliate product.
