A Real Business Or GDI? Helpful Points to Take Into Consideration
Due to the current economic crisis, many people are looking into starting their own online business with the hope of creating an income. One of the most advertised and probably popular schemes is that of GDI – Global Domains International.
GDI has been in business for several years and some people certainly have made quite a success out of it. The business model is quite simple. They sell website addresses with the “.ws” instead of the more traditional “.com” and should you buy one of these addresses you are encouraged to try and sell the same thing on to other people. If you do, you receive $5 of the $10 monthly fee for as long as people keep their websites.
You also receive money from up to five levels below you so that if one of your customers sells a web address you also will receive payment.
If you are thinking of trying this “business” here is a valuable tip. Start off by selling your first domain to your husband or wife and then only use that one for future sales. This will mean that you always receive two commissions for every further sale.
Is that a bit sneaky? Probably but in my opinion the whole business model of GDI is sneaky. Firstly the so called product, the “.ws” website address. Paying $10 for a mediocre web hosting with limited disk space on overcrowded servers isn’t a good deal. The fact that most people trying to drum up business for GDI use “.com” website addresses shows another flaw. It is very difficult to get your .ws website to be listed in google’s search results.
To be honest I did spend quite some time looking into GDI and wondered if it was possible to make the system work. In the end I decided against it and not just because I found the whole business of selling something grossly overpriced and virtually worthless rather distasteful.
Thankfully I came across a website that was like a breath of fresh air compared to all the countless I tend to be somewhat sceptical!
